Trying something a little different this trip

Well, we're going to try something a little different this trip. I'm going add a link to a map below that will let you see where we are when you click on the link. I just have to remember to start the tracking app for this to work. Check back to see if it works for you and let us know. If it doesn't, I'll delete this post. If I've forgot to start the app all you will get is the blank blue screen. If I remember to start it up you should see a map with one red marker showing our present location. Click "Show Route" and you should see several little red dots showing our route from where we started to our present location. Mouse over the red dots and it should tell you the time and speed we're traveling and some other info like latitude & longitude. You can zoom in and see exactly where we are on the road. It updates every 30 seconds, but you might have to refresh your browser if the route disconnects for some reason. You can view in Map View or Satellite View. For some reason the buttons for show/hide route won't show on an IPad. When you first go to the page it takes a little while for the route to show.

Lake Kissimmee State Park

Well, we slept in a while this morning.  We decided to look at the atlas to find a day trip & decided on Lake Kissimmee State Park. We got under way about 10:30 and made our way along as many 2 lanes as possible. The weather was great with temps in the low 70s to start with, but it got up to 82 before we got back.  (Pam:  I was comfy with my long sleeve top on 'cause I freeze at temps below 70! LOL)

Looks like Pam is sitting on a finger! :-)
Unbelievable roots!
We couldn't find any alligators, so this will have to do!!

We programmed the GPS for 2 lanes for the ride back to Zephyrhills & we are glad we did. It brought us back through a lot of orange & grapefruit orchards.  The smell was unbelievable. We had noticed a light scent out on the 4 lanes, but back in the country it was even better.  Pam almost hyperventilated trying to breathe in the smell of the orange blossoms!

Everywhere you look down here there are Osprey nests. On a lot of the power poles they have installed what looks like wheel barrow bodies for them for them to nest in. I suppose it's all the lakes around that keeps so many of them here. There seems to be a bumper crop of young ones, too.

(We haven't had time to figure out yet how our readers can add comments, but Marla you figured out a way around it, didn't you?  You emailed your comments to us!  Thanks!)

That's it for tonight. Nighty night!!

  1. Well, I'll be! When I clicked on the area in red that says "no comment", it gave me several choices. Since not everyone has a gmail account, I hit "anonymous" and will put my name at the end of the comment so you can see who commented. Soooo.....if you want to comment, just click on the red "no comments" beside Larry's name, the hit the box beside "comment as" and click on anonymous. Add your comment and BE SURE TO ADD YOU NAME IN THE COMMENT BOX. Let's see how that works...

  2. When you hit "anonymous" after you comment and add your name in the comment box, if you click on "preview" it will take you to a box where you will have to type the numbers you see to prove you are not a robot. Then the comment will be sent to Larry for approval. It should show up eventually. (Clear as mud?). Then hit publish after you type in the numbers.

  3. Larry & Pam, The pix from Lake Kissimmee that you posted were so beautiful that Karin & I decided to take a day trip over there tomorrow (Fri the 21st). We were kinda looking for another place to go that we hadn't been to before and we thought this would be worth the drive. We're gonna take a picnic lunch with us and just enjoy the scenery. We were at Blue Springs State Park in FL in February to view the manatees in the warm water lagoon there and it was really nice and I'm sure this will be as well. Dale & Karin
